The wick
One of the very first things that needs to be done is trimming the candle wick before lighting it.The recommended length is 1/4" which will keep the wax clean and the burn even. It will also help with getting the best scent throw and minimize soot, the black smoke that can come from the flame.
The melt pool
Make sure your candle burns evenly the first time you light it. To allow this to happen, you will need to let the wax melt completely to the edges of the container to prevent "tunneling". We recommend burning for 2-3 hours in order for the full melt pool to appear.
The location
Light your candle in a well ventilated area that is away from drafts/fans (e.g. by an open window/sliding door). If there is an air current or a burst of wind then it can cause a candle flame to dance, smoke, bend, or flame higher, which can cause an uneven burn. Also, place your candle on a stable, heat resistant surface away from flammable objects before lighting.
The safety precautions
Never leave a burning candle unattended and extinguish the candle before leaving the room. Keep your candle away from children and pets. Do not move your candle once it has been lit or if you can see that the wax has not completely hardened right after extinguishing.
